Overview

Mikoto is the only 5★ Blade user from the launch pool of units and amongst the highest Strength stat in the game. With built-in critical chance boosters, he serves the party as a high power dps unit.

Having both co-op buffs and self buffs in his skills, Mikoto can both bring a large amount of raw damage and makes the team perform slightly better . Combined with his somewhat lower HP makes him function closer to a glass cannon who will rely either on healers or mobility to stay alive in end game content.

Strengths

Flame Element

With both Chapter 1 and Chapter 6 being heavily Wind focused maps, Mikoto makes a strong choice for clearing them on both Normal and Hard difficulties. He is also very effective in the High Midgardsormr Dragon Trial, one of the highest difficulty modes currently available.

Massive Damage Output

Mikoto stands out for having the game’s only attack speed buff. This combined with the highest base Strength stat in the game, a Strength boosting co-op ability, and two critical chance passives makes him incredible at attacking. Fully upgraded, Mikoto has a +10% boost to Strength for himself and his allies. He also has a +18% chance to perform a critical hit on top of the base rate, provided he remains at 70% of his max HP.

100% Stun Resistance

Stun is a terribly dangerous condition as it lasts a painfully long and doesn’t break even when damage is taken or the unit is knocked up/back. Mikoto obtains 50% and later 100% resistance to being Stunned, making him invaluable on maps where stun is abundant such as any of the Midgardsormr Trials or the Flame Imperial Onslaught.

Weaknesses

No Natural Sustain

As a damage focused unit, Mikoto is not exactly geared for defense for himself nor his allies. He lacks any form of native healing or defensive buffs. Someone else in the group will need to provide support, even running Phoenix may not provide as much healing as someone like Verica.

Competes with Ezelith

Mikoto can be compared to Ezelith in the Flame category as many people prefer Ezelith due to Dagger units being a bit easier to use than Blades. Despite Ezelith’s significantly lower base Strength, she also comes with Broken Punisher and can use her second skill to reduce the Defense of an enemy without fail. Ideally, a Flame team would want one of each in the role of DPS since they can each benefit from the other’s co-op passive.

Dragon Recommendations

Agni It’s only natural for the strongest unit in the game to want the strongest Strength boosting dragon for their element available. With Agni’s whopping +40% Strength, and later +60% Strength, the two make the perfect pair for raw power. Agni’s only flaw is his rarity making him hard to unbind fully, but, he remains the ideal choice for Mikoto’s draconic partner.

Phoenix Perhaps the only dragon Mikoto should use that doesn’t carry a Strength boost, Phoenix is an invaluable asset to a team in higher difficulty maps due to her powerful healing skill. She can take pressure off the primary support, and a team of non-healers all equipped with her can potentially support themselves with properly spaced out uses.

Ifrit Second strongest dragon in terms of pure Strength buffing for Flame units, Ifrit makes a wonderful budget choice for Mikoto when Agni is unavailable. While initially weaker, being a 4-star unit means it’s easier to fully unbind him. Fully unbound, Ifrit gives a +45% Strength boost making him well worth the investment.

Pele An Event restricted dragon, but one that can be easily farmed and unbound for those fortunate enough to have played the Loyalty’s Requiem raid event. With a strength buff that surpasses Brunhilda, Pele serves as a fairly decent f2p dragon for any offensive Flame unit and Mikoto is no exception.

Weapon Recommendations

While Heaven's Acurity is of course the ideal end game weapon for Mikoto, most players will settle for Flametongue for the majority of their time using him as it is considerably easier to craft and offers more raw stats than it's 3★ counterpart. While Flametongue may provide a seemingly less useful defense buff compared to the Valkheim Blade's attack skill, the Strength it provides for his standard attacks and critical hits matters considerably more for long term DPS.

Wyrmprint Recommendations

Levin’s Champion This is Mikoto’s ideal Wyrmprint for putting out pure damage. It offers the highest boost to his already impressive critical hit rate and provides a buff to the damage of critical hits. It helps add more consistency to his damage bursts and makes them stronger.

One With The Shadows Decent competition for Levin’s Champion due to it having no HP requirements on the critical hit rate, while also being easier to fully unbind by comparison. It also comes with Broken Punisher, providing even greater burst during the main nova phase of any boss fight as well.

Howling Predator A simple budget option that offers a boost to Mikoto’s critical hit rate, his overall consistency in dps, and burst damage through any of his attacks. Being common also makes it easy to unbind.

Scorn The Destrier A more common print that offers the second benefit from One With The Shadows, providing a decent damage buff to the user during the Break phase of the boss.

Unfulfilled Visions  A fairly easy to obtain wyrmprint that is generally only desirable for Story Chapter maps, due to the reliance on slaying normal enemies to work. It does, however, offer a fairly solid boost of either 10% or 15% additional Strength by the time the boss arrives when it is fully charged.

Teammate Recommendations

  • Flame Element Adventurers - With game content being set into elements, it is ideal to run teams of only the advantaged element for the best results. Strong picks to form a team with Mikoto would include units like Ezelith or Verica for the support he needs to perform his best.
  • Buffers/Debuffers - Any unit that has a co-op ability like Ezelith to boost Strength or Crit Rate is a huge boon to Mikoto. Having skills to debuff the enemy's Defense or buff his own Strength further are also perfect partners for active support. This makes Ezelith doubly useful and also makes Karl or Halloween Elisanne powerful allies as well.
  • Healers - Both Mikoto and his ideal Wyrmprint require him to remain above at least 70% HP in order to benefit from his incredibly high Crit Rate. This is an important aspect to his damage output so while any healer is good, healers with regen skills like Verica, or damage shields like Edward are especially useful for maintaining his health over longer periods. Naturally Hildegard has both abilities and would generally be his ideal healer.
