Overview
Heralding the Lunar New Year is Lin You, Wind’s first 5★ melee Adventurer. The Kung-Fu Apprentice is an Axe wielder geared more towards offense than defense, mirroring the concepts of Sazanka and Vanessa. She further breaks the mold as the first Axe user to be centered around critical hits, which is rather counterintuitive of such a slow-hitting weapon class. That said, her kit covers shortcomings intrinsic to the weapon type, and Lin You’s brutal Criticals personify a high-risk, high-reward playstyle.
Strengths
Covers Axe weaknesses
Axes typically connote a sluggish attack speed and, by extension, slow SP gain. Skill Haste and the speed boost from Heaven’s Breath’s work to mitigate this.
Hard counters Mercury
Lin You is the only Wind adventurer with Sleep, which Mercury is highly susceptible to. Bog Res and the Axe Co-Ability all but ensure her a slot on future High Mercury teams.
Weaknesses
HP Gated
One of Lin You’s main draws is her hard-hitting Axe Crits, but this entire portion of her kit is conditional on her staying healthy. While she has some self-healing through Heaven’s Breath, Lin You has the lower HP expected of Dagger or Blade users without their mobility, so keeping above the threshold may prove challenging.
Inconsistent
A conditional Critical Rate of 10% feels rather paltry compared to other dedicated Crit Adventurers. Crit-focused kits are gambles by nature, so one may have to utilize Wyrmprints or the Dagger’s Co-Ability for more tangible results.
Dragon Recommendations
- Long Long is practically tailored to Lin You-- increased Strength and Critical Damage meshes well with her kit.
- Zephyr and Roc act as reliable raw damage boosts.
- High Midgardsormr provides higher survivability without sacrificing DPS.
- Tsumuji and Midgardsormr are usable budget options.
